Urban’s Trail

Technical description of the route

In the village of Grabrovec stands the Church of St Urban, the patron saint of vineyards. Urban’s Trail begins in Metlika and leads through vineyard-covered hills, traditional wine cottages, forests and fields to the church and back to Metlika.
Grabrovec is especially beautiful in summer, when wild strawberries and blueberries ripen in the forests, and in early autumn, when buckwheat blooms, apples are ripe and the vines are heavy with juicy grapes. During St Martin’s Day, the atmosphere is at its best in local wine cottages, with a glass of young wine and a handful of sweet chestnuts gathered from the Grabrovec vineyards.
