In the beautiful landscape around Metlika, two major rivers flow – the Lahinja and the Kolpa. The Metlika Fishing Association manages all their tributaries, ensuring the preservation of nature and the cleanliness of the waters and their banks. Their fishing lodge is located by the ponds in Prilozje, which were fully renovated and arranged in 2011. Today, the area hosts gatherings of anglers and nature lovers, fishing competitions and social events, while many visitors simply spend time by the ponds, surrounded by water lilies, relaxing away from the fast pace of everyday life.The waters managed by the Metlika Fishing Association are open to both local and international visitors. For anglers exploring the riverbanks, it is important to note that both rivers are rich in fish species. Fishing opportunities include pike, catfish, carp, chub, tench, nase and bream. Trout and huchen can also be found, as the waters have been steadily improving in quality. This is largely due to the increasing number of wastewater treatment plants, reflecting a strong commitment to a cleaner environment in Bela Krajina.
