Welcome with sparkling wine at the House of local delights Bela Krajina
Your day begins with a warm and sincere welcome at the House of Delicacies of Bela Krajina. As you step inside, you are greeted with a glass of chilled sparkling wine, small local delicacies and an atmosphere filled with a sense of home. The welcome sets the tone for the entire experience – slow, elegant and designed for you to pause, breathe and focus on each other.
This first moment defines the experience – a blend of authenticity, refined details and the feeling that, as a couple, you have come to the right place.
Belokranjska pogača baking experience at the House of local delights Bela Krajina
One of the most sensory moments of the day follows: creating your own Belokranjska pogača. Soft dough, warm movements, shared kneading. Your hands naturally come closer, echoing cinematic moments where something deeper is created through touch. As the dough rises, you taste local wines, share impressions and anticipate the moment when you break the pogača in half, as tradition dictates. Some say this is the moment when two hearts truly become a team.
Guided walk through the old town of Metlika
While waiting for your pogača to bake, explore the town together through its streets, stories and architectural details that have shaped the character of Bela Krajina for centuries. A guide reveals Metlika through its most intimate moments and hidden corners.
Visit to the Kambič Gallery
Step into an artistic treasure of Bela Krajina. The Kambič Gallery offers insight into the rich cultural heritage of Metlika and the work of collectors, artists and creators who have shaped the region’s artistic history. The collection was donated to Metlika by Dr Vinko Kambič and his wife, prima donna Vilma Bukovec Kambič. Let their love story inspire you as you walk through the gallery. Each artwork invites you to pause and share a quiet moment together.
Wine experience in the castle garden with Šturm Castle Cellar
An intimate setting in a castle garden, your pogača and a glass of fine wine. An atmosphere shaped not by decoration, but by ancient walls, a sense of history and calming nature. A moment where time seems to slow down. Outdoor wine tasting surrounded by history encourages conversation, connection and closeness.
Create meaningful gifts inspired by tradition
Two centuries-old traditions, once symbols of love between a young man and a young woman, are given a modern, open and deeply personal meaning.
“I give you a *pisanica* because I love you” is an old saying from Bela Krajina, marking the moment when a girl would give her chosen one a beautifully decorated Easter egg. In return, he would create a preslica (distaff), carefully carved and decorated to express what words could not. Both traditions were expressions of tenderness, care and the desire to create something by hand for someone held close to the heart.
Today, these two workshops are brought together into a unique experience of creating personal gifts.
The pisanica and preslica are no longer tied to gender roles. Both workshops offer a space where anyone can create a gift for their partner or loved one – something that carries a part of themselves. A handmade object that can only be given to someone you wish to tell: I think of you, I choose you, this is just for you.
It is a moment of intimacy and creativity, where something truly lasting is created.
