This twin-engine propeller aircraft, operated by a crew of four, is of American origin. After 1953, the Yugoslav People\u2019s Army (JNA) operated 34 similar aircraft, which remained in service until 1976. The Dakota with tactical number 71 253 was last used by the 679th Transport Squadron at Pleso Airport near Zagreb.\n\nIn 1984, the aircraft was transported to a meadow near the village of Otok by Metlika and installed as a museum exhibit. It was initially painted in the colours of the Yugoslav Air Force, and in 1986 it was repainted in a British colour scheme, which it retains to this day.\n\nThis aircraft is the only preserved example of its kind in Slovenia and is therefore of exceptional importance to Slovenian military history.
